Other important virtues are fortitude, generosity, self-respect, good temper, and sincerity. Ibn Sina developed a theory of the conjunction of the soul with the active intellect; with this conjunction is bound up the ultimate perfection of the soul which has attained the highest degree of wisdom and virtue. The virtues of the state are the virtues of ethics and not of morality. Morals are the tools by which one lives, whereas ethics constitute the manual that codifies them.
